| In my line of work we use a lot of oral presentations such as informative presentations, training sessions, and action plans. Informative presentations: many times people come in with questions about how things work (i.e. where does the service take place, what is the time line/process for D.C.s) I then have to put on my informative hat and answer all the technical questions that they have. Training session: when deal with doctors there is a constant need to instruct them on how to fill out very sensitive government documents. This requires tact and diplomacy as the doctors are more educated than I am and can often resent the fact that I am instructing them what to do. Action plan: many times we need to out line a plan of action for the day. As the day progresses there is always a crisis needing to be dealt with: that’s where we need to out line the problem and come up with a persuasive plan of action. I don’t want to go into detail because these can be sensitive to some people. | | |
| I feel that the hybrid is most appropriate application form for me The reason being – I generally worked for my father in the family business however I also worked as a cook. The family business is one thing that I don’t want to mention when applying for a cooking position and vise versa when I’m applying for a position in my area of study. I need to focus on what I’m applying for and the negative connotations associated in mixing the two. | | |
| im still having problems with my net what a pain! I’m glad for the class tonight so I’ll be able to get some examples for what to do on our writing assignment #1 … hopefully. I’m having a problem whit the reflections, I hate having to share my thoughts with others for fear of what they will think. Am I flaming when I write? Am I really boring? Am I completing with what my teacher wants? From the book I’ve learned that I identify with the majority of people, that is I hate reading on the internet. If what I want isn’t there now and ready for me I look somewhere else. Like the looking up of the two sources for: 6. Annotated Bibliography x2. Find two websites that give you suggestions on how to develop better resumes and/or cover letters. In the annotations briefly discuss how you found the sites and summarize the information provided. Also include a brief discussion of how/why you might use them in your own job application packet. I went thorough 4 sites to find what I wanted for one and about that many more to find the second. Really I don’t remember a lot from 5 and 10 other that I have some things highlighted for reference. For future advice to others taking business classes don’t mix this class with owning and operating a small business. The texts are similar for the first few chapters and you’ll get them mixed-up however they do complement each other so you can use them for references | | |
| well I got done with my reading and finally got to a computer to input it. This class is really different compared to what im use to, I purchased a printer so I didn't have to got to the school as much as I did last summester. looks like I'll be going there a lot more now that I have this class. I know that the instructer told us that the class was top heavy with the assignments and I'm certanly feeling some of that. Most of the readings reinforced my previous instructions which is a good thing, I am, like some of the others have said, going to need to restructure my time to allow me to do all the readings. | | |
| I think that the job application is a lost art. Most times we just fill out the form from the department of work force services and that’s enough but it does seem that in the corporate world a little more that just a brief school history and the previous 3 jobs you worked is needed to prove yourself. In my work place we received a resume that was hand written and faxed. This says a lot about who you are. For this person it said; “my handwriting is horrible and I don’t want to take the time to show up in person to give this to you.” It wasn’t uniform, it was hard to read, it shows no care for who received it and since we weren’t hiring, it showed no investigation into our company. By law it’s kept on file and we did call the individual back and told them that when we were hiring we will consider the application, but I don’t think it will be the first one called back. In my opinion and based on the material read it was everything a resume shouldn’t be. this individual didnt go through the check list! if they had the quality would have been much better, they would have realized that this is the first impression that were getting of them and how important it is. did any of you get a new perspective on the importance of a good resume form the check list? Its allways been impressed on me the importance of representing yourself well. Im just sat that I'm having to do this through this blog. I don't represent myself well in wrighting. | | |
